Lorraine Sudol Dufresne, 85, of Bath, NH, died peacefully at Cottage Hospital after a long illness on 8 February 2024. Born on February 15, 1938, in East Rutherford, N.J., to Mary and Stanley Sudol. She attended East Rutherford High School before getting her BA in psychology at Clark University in Worcester Mass, where she met her future husband E. Donald Dufresne. They eventually settled in Candia, NH, where they raised their three children and a barnyard of various animals.
Lorraine worked as a property manager for over 50 years. Brought up in an era of self-reliance, she could do anything in maintaining and fixing the various properties that she managed. She directed several major renovations over the years. Additionally, she taught English at the Moore School in Candia for several years and was a Clark University Alumni representative for college fairs in southern New Hampshire. She was a trustee of the Hampshire House for over 30 years – a nonprofit boarding house for women in Manchester, and became a subsequent trustee of the New Hampshire Institute of Art. She was on the Candia Town Planning Board.
After the death of her beloved husband of 38 years, she relocated to Bath. There she became involved with the Friends of the Library. In her leisure time, Lorraine enjoyed cooking, travel, horseback riding, reading and the New York Times crossword puzzle. She was fond of her many animals.
Lorraine is survived by her three children, five grandchildren, three sisters and two brothers. Services will be held privately.
