In Loving Memory of Rodney Mac Haywood
Rod Haywood, born on June 26, 1949 in Grand Junction, Colorado, embarked on his final journey on February 29, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, music, cherished stories and great memories. Surrounded by family, Rod peacefully passed away from Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), a battle he faced with courage and resilience.
Rod was predeceased by his parents, Florence and William Haywood, and his sister, Patty Haywood. He is survived by his brother Don Haywood and sister-in-law Mary Haywood, his son Dan Haywood, stepsons Jonathan and Matt Keane, and his devoted wife, Carol Johnson-Haywood. Rod also leaves behind five amazing grandchildren - Carter, Olive, Henry, Eli, and Kayla plus numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews, each touched by his warmth and kindness.
A talented mandolin and bass player, Rod's love for music resonated throughout his life. He shared his melodies with joy, leaving a lasting impression on those lucky enough to hear him play. After graduating from the University of New Hampshire, Rod ventured into the world of underwater robotics before finding his true calling as a cartographer and GIS consultant.
Rod's impact extended beyond his professional life into the hearts of his family and community. Although Rod was not an athlete, because his sons loved baseball, he became an assistant coach for their teams - offering quite a unique coaching style! Rod later demonstrated the same kind of love and respect for anything his children were interested in, including when he took up the game of golf with great gusto!
Rod faced his illness with grace and strength, surrounded by the love of his family. His laugh, hugs and great story-telling will always be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know him. In honoring Rod's life, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Creutzfeldt-Jacob Disease to support research and awareness for CJD.
A memorial service to celebrate Rod Haywood's life will be held on Thursday, March 7th from 11-1 at the Rocks Estate to be followed by an after party from 1-3 at Rek-lis Pint House, providing an opportunity for friends and family to come together, share stories, and remember the incredible man whose spirit will live on in our hearts.
